Normanton 1 - 2 Kells
Defending Champions Kellingley finished their Premier league campaign off on a high note, with a sensational team display away to their respected rivals Normi, enabling kells to finish a very respectable fourth place, following an horrendous run of bad luck,a catalogue of injuries and one thing after another, has forced the side to play almost half the season with a bare 11 players, and on some occassions 10 and less, but enormous credit goes out to the players who chose to battle it out to the very end, which is testement to the character and commitment from the players, that tells you why this side has been so successful.
In this final game, both sides started very lively, which is always the case, and kells had the upper hand in terms of possession and chances created, but following an attempted clearance from kells was intercepted by a normi player and his angled shot found its way into the bottom corner to give the home side a 1-0 lead, which was a bit harsh considering the balance of play,
Kells simply got on with it and increased the tempo and continued to drive forward, with some tremendous high quality football featuring central midfield duo Ross Gemmell and Jake Thomson backed by the tireless Lyndon Dibb, this combined with the blistering pace of Brynn Foster down the left and Danny Lambert on the right, suggested it was just a matter of time before kells got back on level terms, with striker Tom Marshall continuously forcing the home defence to drop deeper and deeper.
Following a goal mouth scramble kells thought they'd levelled when skipper Rob Neilson found himself in the 6 yard box,he struck the ball into the ground on the goal line forcing the ball to bounce into the roof of the net which clearly showed the ball had crossed the line because of the bulge in the net,but the only person who thought it wasn't a goal was the referee, and despite agreement from the home side, the ref stood by his decision and disallowed the goal, and kells trailed 1-0 at the break.
Second half kells came out obviously feeling hard done by,and were in determined mood and for the rest of the half played some breathtaking football which was a joy to watch, which was vintage kells which had been missing most of the season due to the circumstances. The outstanding defence of keeper Jake Mulhern,Matty Carter,Mark Harrison,Neilson and Simon Ridge standing in at right back for the injured Brad Harris, stayed resolute, allowing the rest of the team to drive forward with pace and purpose, and when Neilson sent Foster down the left on another one of his powerful runs, saw him outpace the right full back and from 20 yards out in full flow unleashed a thunderous bullet strike of pure quality to fire his side level 1-1,and kells were by no means finished as Dibbs energy and drive combining with Gemmell and Thomsons flair created yet more openings, and it was Foster again who broke down the left, and put over a terrific cross for the inrushing Marshall, and his goalbound perfectly timed header forced the home keeper to pull off a top class save, shortly after following another sweeping build up,this time saw Lambert storm into the box,and his clinical finish put kells1-2 ahead, and went on to a well deserved victory, with a magnificent performance from the kells team, which was also praised by the home sides management and coaching staff, which was a nice gesture considering they were pushing for the runners up spot.
Kells are looking to strengthen for next season to challenge and try to win back their Premier league title anyone interested should contact Bob on 07970288663.

Thornes 0 - 6 Kells
Kellingley cruised into the quarter finals of the invitation cup, with a slick and classy display against lower ranked opponents Thornes.
Kells once again down to a bare 11,but saw the welcome return of fit again Brynn Foster who was sorely missed last week, and it took him 10 minutes to fire his side ahead following a pacey run and long range strike that eluded the keeper,
Some sterling last ditch defending from the hosts denied kells going further ahead, with Danny Lambert,Robbie Mulhern and Ross Gemmell all within inches of increasing the lead, courtesy of some tremendous approach play from Jake Thomson and Foster.
Kells solid and composed defence were rarely troubled and it stayed 0-1 at the break.
Second half the premier league side upped the pace and started to show their superiority, with Thomsons flair a key feature with some astute passing, and when Lambert was released down the right his pace took him beyond the home defence and his bullet strike flew in the top corner to make it 0-2,minutes after the re-start kells drove forward again and Lyndon Dibbs aerial power in the box enabled him to head the ball into lamberts path, and his first time volley gave the keeper no chance,to claim his second and make it 0-3, it was then Dibbs turn to get on the scoresheet with a cool finish despite playing with a shoulder injury.
The busy Jacob Mulhern created space for himself to rattle home goal number 5,and kells rounded off a convincing win when Foster unleashed a ferocious angled strike from 18 yard yards which almost took the net out and a strong contender for goal of the season, also claiming his second of the game and kells sixth,Skipper Rob Neilson, Brad Harris and keeper Simon Ridge always looked in control in defence, but outstanding centre back Matty Carter looked a class act throughout and shared the man of the match with Lambert, pushed close by Thomson,
Overall a terrific team effort from the whole kells team, sees them progress into the quarter final stages.

Kells 5 - 2 Ward Green
Kells returmed to action after a 3 week layoff producing a comfortable win, taking into account that their season has been ripped apart by long term injuries to several players, which has taken it's toll of them defending their Premier League title.
Kells did however recieve a positive boost with Tom Marshall making his first start after waiting patiently for over 3 weeks and the young striker didn't disappoint, with a superbly taken debut goal also hitting the upright and going close on several occasions.
Another key factor was the return of skipper Rob Neilson who has been out for a long spell, Brynn Foster grabbed 2 goals, one a powerful finish that came off the underside of the bar, the other a long range freekick, other goals came from the energetic Lyndon Dibb with a far post header and Jacob Mulhern smashing home a penalty after the lightening quick Danny Lambert was hacked down in the box, Brad Harris smacked a header against the bar and Jake Thomson and Ross Gemmell were both dominant in the central mid-field area.
Ward Green never gave up the fight and pegged back a couple of goals put kells always looked in control with outstanding centre back Matty Carter taking the man of the match with keeper Simon Ridge and the rest of the home side performing brilliantly and will be hoping to keep as many players fit as possible going into next weeks league clash away to rivals Ardsley.
