Kellingley produced some fine football in the final game of the season to almost certainly guarantee 5th position. Some great moves and solid battling performance’s by James Early , Ash Russell, Ryan Kershaw and the two outstanding centre backs of Habberjam and Spires created several opportunities for this well disciplined team effort. Midfield maestro Kershaw and Dixon won there battles which made life a load easier for wingback Wakefield and Sparkes to advance into the Ammers half on several occasions. On 10 mins a great pass by Kershaw was collected by the battling Russell to put Kells 1-0 up. Other opportunities came and went without been punished until on 47 mins great work by Early was tapped in by Russell to finish his season off with 14 and put Kells 2-0 up.Great team work ensured that Kells kept a clean sheets and finished the season on a high against a good Yorks Amm team.

Kells 3 - 2 Hemsworth Terriers

A wonderfully struck 25 yard top corner free kick by Brendon Cummings ensured Kellingley all three points in this feisty local derby.Kellingley went 2 - 0 up after only 8 minutes - the first goal supplied by Ryan Kershaw’s corners was headed in by Andy Sparkes and then on 8 mins a Josh Kaye cross was converted after a mix up and error by the terriers keeper by James Earley.Terriers clawed there way back into this game just after half time until Cummings won the game with a goal worthy of winning any game.Good performances by Man of the match Zach Spires and Ash Russell along with noticeable contributions by Ryan Gibson and Rob Sparkes. The referee sent off 2 terrier players for bad language and a horrid tackle on the Kells forward Ash Russell. This win will ensure a top 5 finish for the Kells in a further good season.
MARCH 9TH 2008

Kells 2 - 1 Royston Dynamos

Brendan Cummings hit a unstoppable 20 yard shot 2 minutes into injury time to give Kellingley all three points against a very spirited Royston outfit.

Against the run of play Royston took the lead when a looping shot was hindered by the bright sun and the keeper lost focus for a split second. Several good opportunities then came Kellingley’s way with Man of the match Josh Kaye and Ash Russell creating openings for several players without the end product. Rob and Andy Sparkes worked well on both flanks before Rob created play on the left which was switched to the right by Russell and Kershaw for Andy Sparkes to set up Brother Rob to level the scores at 1 - 1.

Time wasting by Royston proved to be there down fall - Because well into injury time Cummings popped up and won the game for the Kells.

MARCH 3RD 2008

St Josephs 5 - 5 Kells

To the natural this must have been the game of the season. Ten goals scored, two goals disallowed and very strong windy conditions. Kells started very slow and were 2 goals down in 17 mins - having to re shuffle the pack due to Habberjam’s serious knee injury the previous week Kells new look central defence pairing of Spires and Gibsons finally found there feet and inspired a pretty good come back.

Outstanding performances from all the Kells team but particularly Cummings , Russell and Andy Sparkes contributed in the game been level at 2 - 2 on 24 mins. First on 21 mins Russell burst through and was pulled down for Kaye to hit home a good solid Penalty, then on 22 mins a great cross from James Early was headed home by man of the match Sparkes to level things. Sparke again burst through on 45 mins to finish with ease to put Kells 2 - 3 up before Joes levelled through sloppy defending.

Russell hit home his 10th of the season on 52 Mins to put Kells 3 - 4 up via a terrible goalkeeping error and Kells thought the rout was complete on 62 mins when Russell played a great ball to the outstanding Cummings to finish with class.

2 goals in the last 13 mins the final one caming with 1 min left left Kells frustrated with dropping 2 points in this vital fixture.Credit to Kells from coming back from 2 - 0 down and credit to the entire team for been positive through out the game.

FEBRUARY 17TH 2008

Kells 3 - 0 St Josephs

Kellingley took there time to ensure the vital 3 points were gained against a spirited St Joes team. First blood could of well gone to the visitors who had several early opportunities only to be denied by the outstanding Jordon Claybrough in the Kells goal.

In fact it was not until 25 minutes into the 1st half that Kellingley really pushed on , a super cross from Josh Kaye was met by the inspirational Brendon Cummings to put Kells 1 - 0 up. The second half showed far more promise as Kells knocked up the gears to show the difference in class. Man of the Match Nathan Habberjam showed cool defending to keep the visitors at bay - before on 53 minutes a great run from Andy Sparkes who provided Ryan Kershaw with a great ball to set up Ash Russell to finish with class to register his 9th of the season and Kells 2nd of the game. Cummings again finished on 60 after a great ball from Russell was messed up by the St Joes keeper to make it 3 - 0. Other missed opportunities by Cummings , Moffatt and Early late into the game could have left Joes very harshly done by.

A good solid second half by Kells in a very tough week due to the tragic news about our friend and colleague Gary McManus who will be sadly missed but never forgotten.
