WELCOME TO THE HOME OF THE KELLS
Children have been playing sports on the Green House Fields in Knottingley, West Yorkshire since 1938 when it was decided that a large recreational area was needed for the growing population in the area. Now the playing fields are the home of the Kells or more officially the Kellingley Welfare Junior Football Club.
The Kellingley Sports and Social Club right next to the fields is affiliated with the football club and is used for Committee meetings and the Annual Awards Ceremony where all the club members receive recognition for their hard work during the season and hopefully get to show off any Trophies and silver-wear that has been won.
The club, like most sports clubs, is run by a small group of dedicated local people who have in interest in the way children use their spare time and have a love for football. They realise the benefits the children receive by being involved in a team sport. This club would not exist if the volunteers were not willing to put in the time and energy they do and for that we thank them.
Funding is always an issue with these types of organisations and the club relies mainly on the generousity of local businesses to sponsor teams, sporting grants and fund raising activities. New sports wear and equipment is needed every year, the main factor for buying the new strip each season is that the players are at an age where they grow very fast !
This website will give you a general idea of the football club and how it is run. Have a look around and if you have any comments or questions please use the Email link to send your correspondence and a reply will be sent to you as soon as possible.
Thankyou.
